We have this from my chess buddy, “optimal play,” in Australia–The Trumpet Shall Sound, from Part III of Handel’s Messiah, performed with gusto by Phil Driscoll. What a set of lungs he has!
Inspired by 1 Corinthians 15: “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed” (v. 52).
Phil Driscoll came to our town back in the 1980’s. A friend of mine who plays a righteous trumpet in his church was able to get so good tips from Phil how to be even better. I wonder what happened to him – he was really making the rounds in churches back then?
We never had a trumpet in our church. Just the organ and the choir.
I remember the name Phil Driscoll, but had forgotten all about him. Still can’t remember where I ever heard him. Some of my previous churches had various instruments; piano, organ, clarinet, even drums occasionally.
New song to me!
