Bonus Hymn, ‘The Trumpet Shall Sound’

We have this from my chess buddy, “optimal play,” in Australia–The Trumpet Shall Sound, from Part III of Handel’s Messiah, performed with gusto by Phil Driscoll. What a set of lungs he has!

Inspired by 1 Corinthians 15: “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed” (v. 52).

  1. Phil Driscoll came to our town back in the 1980’s. A friend of mine who plays a righteous trumpet in his church was able to get so good tips from Phil how to be even better. I wonder what happened to him – he was really making the rounds in churches back then?

  2. I remember the name Phil Driscoll, but had forgotten all about him. Still can’t remember where I ever heard him. Some of my previous churches had various instruments; piano, organ, clarinet, even drums occasionally.
