By Request, ‘Rejoice Greatly’

The Internet is smothered in politics today, and I don’t think you need me to add to it. Instead, we have another hymn request by Erlene: Rejoice Greatly, by Bruce and Lynne Patterson (inspired by Handel’s The Messiah).

By Request, ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ (Wow!)

Erlene suggested this, and it has blown me away–Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, as performed by the whole crew at Sydney Opera House.

Gonna knock off for a while now. We couldn’t watch Risen yesterday because we somehow stumbled into the middle of an Etruscan fire drill, so we’ll try again today. The sun’s out today, and I want to spend some time with it.

By Request, ‘Hallelujah Chorus’

The Hallelujah Chorus from G.F. Handel’s The Messiah, sung by the Royal Choral Society–yeah, I think we can enter that in our carol contest. Requested by Phoebe.

If a commercial pops up in this video, it’s not my fault and I don’t know how to prevent it. My regular stats and management page is still broken.

By Request, ‘Unto Us a Child Is Born’

We have this request from Thewhiterabbit–Unto Us a Child is Born, from Handel’s Messiah… via Isaiah 9:6. Performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

We have one more carol coming up… Everybody, vote with your views.

By Request, ‘And He Shall Purify’

We have a hymn request from SlimJim to start the day–And He Shall Purify, from Handel’s Messiah, performed by VOCES8. We usually expect to hear this at Christmas-time… but Jesus is Lord of all the year.

By Request, ‘For Unto Us a Child Is Born’

We know these words, don’t we? For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder… (Isaiah 9:6) And we also find them here, in Handel’s Messiah.

Requested by Thewhiterabbit, For Unto Us a Child Is Born, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.

By Request, The Hallelujah Chorus

Phoebe asked for this one, and indeed it just wouldn’t seem right to have Christmas without the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. And let’s go first-class, with the Royal Choral Society at the Albert Hall.

And how they manage to put all these elements together into a flawless work of art… well, I can only stand in awe.

By Request, The Hallelujah Chorus

Phoebe asked for The Hallelujah Chorus (from Handel’s Messiah), so we’ve got The Hallelujah Chorus, performed by The English Concert and Choir. It works just as well for Easter as for Christmas–or for any other day.

Bonus Hymn, ‘The Trumpet Shall Sound’

We have this from my chess buddy, “optimal play,” in Australia–The Trumpet Shall Sound, from Part III of Handel’s Messiah, performed with gusto by Phil Driscoll. What a set of lungs he has!

Inspired by 1 Corinthians 15: “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall all be changed” (v. 52).

‘For Unto Us a Child Is Born’

Christmas is coming! And we have this hymn by special request from TheWhiteRabbit: Unto Us a Child Is Born–by the London Symphony Orchestra, no less. Text from the Bible, Isaiah 9:6. Music by Handel, from The Messiah.

Don’t forget, the Christmas carol contest starts the day after tomorrow.
