Our friend SlimJim’s blog, The Domain for Truth, exhorts us today, “This Sunday at church, pray for those who lost someone in their family this year.”
I thank God no one in my family has been taken away this year so far… maybe because there are so few of us left. But 2018 was a bad year: Aunt Joan, Patty’s brother Ray, and a couple of our long-time friends. As John Donne observed, the bell always tolls.
We don’t go to despair–or at least shouldn’t go–like the heathen who have no hope. We are promised eternal life. In the fullness of Christ’s Kingdom, all that was lost shall be restored.
It’s still hard to carry on without our loved ones, though.
Hebrews 11:1 — Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
And it’s what we need.
