Asbury Revival: Still at Work

As you can see by the video clip, there’s no room for everybody indoors and the revival at Asbury University, Kentucky, has spilled into the rest of the campus.

Why does this make me think of the Day of Pentecost (see Acts, Chapter 2)? This is the modern era–Internet, cell phones, instant transmission of information, with the whole world watching and listening. Well, what would a modern Pentecost look like? Would it look like this?

We can’t all go to Kentucky, but surely we can be part of a revival just where we are. Through prayer, through singing and hearing of hymns, through Christian fellowship–“Every kindred, every tribe,” as the old hymn says.

God knows our country needs revival! We know it, too.

May the Holy Spirit move mightily in the land, and do great works. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. At the very least, this serves to demonstrate that faith is alive and well, for many people. It’s always been this way; worshippers of the One True God are usually in the minority, but that is not to suggest that they are not a voice for goodness.

    1. Worldwide, we are probably in the minority, because there are populous areas where the God of Abraham has traditionally not been worshipped, but even in these places, Christianity is fervently practiced by the minority. There is solid growth in China, North Korea and Iran.

I would say that in the US, Christians make up a lot of the populace. Even on Southern California, which is considered ultra “progressive”, there are a lot of churches, which means that there are a lot of people willing to lend material support towards having a meeting place, with fellow worshippers. Much of the Western US has a significant LDS presence, and while many people disagree with the tenets of the LDS church, its members tend to lead moral lives, shaped by biblical morality. Having worked for the US government, I can state that there are many, many practicing Christians working for the government.

It’s sad, that the media has so effectively made Christianity out to be a dying flame, because that is not the case, at all.

  2. The college president is pretty much shutting the revival down I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes on judgment day.

    1. I hadn’t seen that news, I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. Guess this college president wouldn’t have listened to Gamaliel.

    2. Aha! He wants “a more sustainable [yowsah, yowsah!] campus experience”!
Next question: what if they won’t let him shut it down?
