Gen. Wade Hampton, CSA–and governor of South Carolina
According to the Colorado Democrat Supreme Court, voting 4-3, President Donald Trump can’t be on the ballot as a presidential candidate because of the so-called “insurrection” of Jan. 6: a shabby interpretation of the 14th Amendment disqualifying anyone who’d fought for the Confederate States.
But General Wade Hampton was elected governor of South Carolina in 1876, served a four-year term, and was then elected to the U.S. Senate, where he served till 1891.
Huh? What about his role in the Civil War? Well, a general amnesty granted in the 1870s took care of that.
Another Confederate general, William Cox, a secessionist from way back, was elected to and served in the House of Representatives.
But now Donald Trump can’t be on the Colorado ballot because of some overstated, tempest-in-a-teapot “insurrection”? When these two men, who led armies against the United States for several years, appeared on their states’ ballots and were elected, and served? Did the amnesty only apply to Democrats? And by the way, did Trump lead any armies?
As usual, Democrats–and the political stooges on the Colorado court–have erected a tower of hypocrisy. And they fully expect to get away with it.
May the LORD Himself confound them.
What amazes me is that the sheisters of the Left no longer even try to maintain the appearance of fairness.
And I can’t imagine why I seem to be the only one who’s mentioned Wade Hampton!
I’ve learned that reasoning does no good when dealing with people who are determined to win at any cost. If they want to defeat Trump … that’s what voting is for. I lived many years in metro Denver and consider the Front Range to be my home, but I’m glad to be away from what it has turned into, these days.
Colorado will not get away with it. They are digging a ditch that they themselves will fall into. If Christians would wake up to their responsibility to be good, informed citizens and participate in civil government instead of pining away for a secret rapture that never happens (a cop out of pure escapism) then maybe we could have some true representation in all levels of civil government. Jesus said to occupy until He comes. Read John 17:15.
I’m with you friend. I know that Christ will return, but I also KNOW that I don’t know when He will return, so I don’t use that hope as a way to escape reality. Reality is, that Christ hasn’t returned yet, and we have to deal with the world as it is, and we are responsible to do our best, in this fallen world.
Colorado was my home for decades, and for years I knew Denver and the Front Range quite well. Circa the turn of the century, Colorado reached a tipping point and the personality of the place changed. Instead of the individualism that had marked the place in my youth, it has turned into a single minded hive where independent thought was no longer welcomed. At this point, when I visit Denver, it has the same vibe as Los Angeles, which is to say I can think of better environments.
It’s a real shame, because the geography of Colorado is beautiful. It used to be said: “tis a privilege to live in Colorado”, but the current social climate is such that I’ll pass on that privilege. The sight of the Rockies still fills my heart, but the culture has changed for too much for my tastes.
Another good one from Viva Frei.
