When in Rome…?

Neptune? Didn’t Caligula boot him out of town?

There’s a study out there, published in The Catholic Herald, that states “Italy’s Catholics reverting to ancient Roman gods, seers, and sorcerors”–by the thousands and ten thousands (https://catholicherald.co.uk/italian-catholics-reverting-to-ancient-roman-gods-seers-and-sorcerers/).

It looks like the kind of New Age claptrap we find in America and Britain, picking up steam in Italy. But how can that be? The Vatican! St. Peter’s! Soothsayers? Fortune-tellers? Roman gods–that even the Romans didn’t quite believe in, going down the stretch. Native Roman religion was on life support even before the Senate declared Augustus Caesar a god.

Pope Francis I has made remarks which have so far proved ineffectual. What’s the College of Cardinals doing? And I don’t think lugging the Pachamama idol into the Vatican was a good idea. Sort of set a bad example, dontcha know.

Pray for the Church in Italy. We’re all in the same boat.

[P.S.–You have no idea how I want to go back to bed.]

  1. I know that statue—it’s down in Virginia Beach. I lived there for a few years back in the 2000’s.

On a less enthusiastic note, and of course just what I’ve read over the years, there always seemed to be some level of fealty to their Roman roots within the upper echelons of the church. The signs are all over the Vatican (visited when I was in the Navy). Not to mention the occultism and Masonic symbology throughout.

Still praying for you and Patty and the Robbie-kitteh.

  2. This is distressing news. While I’m not Catholic, I know that their are many godly people in that faith, and I hope that these are not dragged down the path of paganism by this.

    1. From the days of ancient Israel, worship of the One True God has at times been challenged by organizations which claim to exist solely to promote that worship. Human frailty at work.

  3. Joe Biden had the Reconciliation Monument removed from Arlington Cemetery. Until his administration every President since McKinley has laid a wreath at it. So much for a Presidency advocating for unity.
