By Request, ‘I Believe’

“Someone” (?) requested this song, I Believe. “Not exactly a Christian song,” he (or she) said. But it brought to my mind St. Paul’s Epistle to the Romans:

“For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead…” (Romans 1:20). In other words, we come to know God, the Creator, by observing all the good things He has created. So in that sense, I Believe is a kind of hymn.

P.S.: I remember Frankie Laine–he sang the theme for Rawhide.

  1. Wow, I had even forgot Frankie Laine ever existed. I remember him now, and his song.

  2. Not directly biblical, but certainly an expression of faith in God and an uplifting song.

For all that scripture teaches us, even persons who have never heard of the Bible are given witness, truly vast witness, by what we see in the world that God created. Think of the animal videos we share and enjoy, and how animals seem to naturally care for the young, even of other species. That isn’t a product of blind chance and survival of the fittest, but strikes me as irrefutable proof that there is a Governing Force beyond our realm.

If you look at the whole of human population, we are part of a fortunate minority that have access to scripture. If any of us could trace our lineage back to the Babel dispersion, even persons of chiefly Northern European descent would find many people who had never heard of I Am, Yahweh, or Jehovah, yet, I’m sure that many of them felt a sense of responsibility to a higher standard, of some sort.

But to know our Creator’s name and purpose is even better. I Am, Yahweh, and Jehovah let us know that He exists, and that He will set things right. He is, and as the song states, there is something more. Our lives are not in vain, because He is.

  3. I requested it, thewhiterabbit. Something strange is going on with Word Press. When I sent my comment is says I need to sign up to see you Blog, and if I want to like a comment it shows a window for me to sign up for the Blog. We are so captive to technology it is kind of frightening, but I do like the way it corrects my typos and misspellings. 🙂

    1. The complexity of it all is growing, all the time. WordPress doesn’t have enough money to entice me to try and fix the mess they’ve made of their platform. AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) is on of the more frustrating aspects of IT.
