Here’s a bunny playing with his Peter Rabbit stuffed toy. What do you suppose he thinks it is? Does it look like a rabbit to him? Why does he run all around the room with it? Inquiring minds want to know.

I have wondered about these things, too.
Animals seem to recognize the appearance of their own species, even if they have been raised in isolation. So, do they recognize toy animals which model their own species, or do they recognize toys made to resemble other species?
I know that my cat drags a stuffed toy kitten around the house, and has never tried to tear it up, although she doesn’t tear up her other stuffed toys, either. She does seem to like smaller stuffed toys that resemble birds, a miniature lion, and other animals, so I just don’t know, but this little bunny sure was cute.
