The L.A. Wildfires Are OUR Fault???

We don’t mean to suggest that Gov. Nero Newsom set the fires that are ravaging the Lost Angeles area (I don’t think I’ll fix that typo). But it’s not hard to imagine him picking up a lyre and playing Climate Change ditties… singing, as it were, while Rome burns. Because at the very least he wants to change it. Re-imagine it, you might say. A whole new L.A. “And it was my dream!” he croons. “I made it happen! All new!”

Celebrities and other Democrats are blaming [trumpet fanfare] Climate Change for the vast, omnivorous fires that are wolfing down their mansions.

This is the ideology. By blaming the fires on Climate Change (has anybody seen my barf bag?), the elites get out from under the blame for stupid, short-sighted, feckless, irresponsible public acts and policies… and suddenly the wildfires are your fault, you peasant!

Yes! You, with your gasoline-powered cars, your air conditioners, your refrigerators, your red meat, etc.–Climate Change is all your fault! If you’d only just listen to your betters {that’d be us!), and obey them! Scale back your lifestyle. You don’t need your own air conditioner–go to a municipal cooling center instead. You don’t need a car of your own–get up on top of the bus with the others.

Nero saw a big chunk of Old Rome burn to ashes, and rejoiced.

Nero Newsom wants to run for president.

A final word: The wildfires are 100% the fault of stupid public policy administered by fools.

  1. That’s the Marxist program: True change can come only through violent revolution. Everything must be destroyed so that the New Order can be put in its place. (Paraphrased from Marx himself.)

  2. Great analysis, Lee, with some very good satire thrown in for good measure. And how do eight fires all start at the same time? I lived in the LA area for 46 years and Santa Winds are a fact of life. I remember on one Christmas where the temperature reached 98* because of Santa Ana winds.

  3. The last time I was in the LA area, I was troubled by how trees were not kept clear of overhead power lines. Tree branches and power distribution lines should never mix, and when they do, there’s no surprise when trouble arises. At best, there will be a power outage, but it can get much worse. Just through casual observation, as I drove through the very areas where these fires have occurred, it struck me that, for whatever reason, the overhead power distribution lines were not being kept safe from tree branches, etc.

I never imagined that these areas would experience the devastation that has happened in the last week or so. I had seen burned areas near the location of the office I was setting up, and was amazed by how close wildfires had come to business areas. Even from my limited exposure, mostly in Calabasas, Agoura Hills and Westlake Village, I could see how any fire in the area could easily go out of control and spread, especially if the wind was blowing.

If you want to blame someone for the fires, blame the decisions which placed homes in a place where this sort of risk is inherent, because of the topography.
