This poem moved me practically to tears: America Is the Poem, by Joseph Massey.

Pure love of country and its people, its history, its cities and its countryside: that’s what we’ve got here. That’s what I just have to share with you. “A poem for Donald Trump’s second inauguration as president,” reads the subtitle.

Our nation’s spirit isn’t used up yet. We are not finished, we are not defeated. We have survived the Biden anti-presidency.

And now it’s time for peace and sanity to be brought back to a troubled world.

  1. I love the passage about the silos. Also the opening image of the train windows. A very well-shaped poem. Thank you for finding it for us.

  2. Wow!

I think that there are many people who simply do not realize what an amazing, exceptional place the United States was. We’ve been given a second chance, not unlike what happened 44 years ago, when the US couldn’t even prevail against a rogue regime in the Middle East. But we came back, and America prospered for many years.

I don’t know how all of this will play out, and I refuse to make predictions of any sort, but I believe that the momentum has been reversed, and I am allowing myself a degree of optimism that hasn’t existed in several years.

This is more than a political matter; there is a spiritual aspect as well. Most of us are unable to influence these matters beyond the power of our vote, and our prayers, which should continue fervently.

    1. I was expecting rapid change, but watching various news sources I trust, even I am surprised. Allegedly, there is some serious pushback in Iran, and their Supreme Leader has been seen in public wearing some sort of bulletproof vest. There are reports that Mr. Putin is speaking in much more conciliatory terms than would have been imaginable just a few days ago. Only one source on that so far, so I’m not holding my breath, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this were true. Big wheels seem to be turning.

    2. D.C. needs fumigatin’.
President Trump’s work is cut out for him. But I think these past four years, hard years, have deepened his understanding.

  3. The video to this poem is inspiring to say the least. Some of President Trump’s Inaugural Address could be conceived of as poetry. You can’t consistently speak of the greatness of America as 47 does unless you really love her from the heart.
