It’s not just that everything hurts, including unmentionable pains in unmentionable places, hip and knees betraying me, etc., etc. But I am worried about it coming after my soul.
There are times when being this sick feels like it’s the only thing that ever was, or ever will be, for me. What? You were playing basketball? How many years ago was that? You carried in an armload of groceries? Tell us another one!
This is dangerous, treading this close to depression. I need to pray harder. Or, as a woman said on the radio, many years ago, “Pray louder.” I don’t think it’s because God can’t hear your prayers unless you shout them. He can always hear you. But sometimes, it seems, you need to hear yourself.
O Lord my God! Carry me safely over these shoals, as you so surely can. My own strength will not suffice; but yours is inexhaustible. Heavenly Father, left up my spirit: in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Psalm 86:
“Turn your ear, O Lord, and give answer
for I am poor and needy.
Preserve my life for I am faithful;
save the servant who trusts in you….”
Lee, I know how hard this is on you. I hold you in prayer throughout the day.
Well, that verse made my eyes fill up…
Thanks for your prayers, Phoebe.
My prayers go with you.
None of us can bear the weight of our entire future. It’s more of a burden than our psyches can possibly bear. At Matthew 6:34 we are told: “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble”. One day at a time will get you through.
Maybe I’ve been trying to keep a stiff upper lip for a wee bit too long.
None of us can carry life’s entire burden all at once. I’m all for a stiff upper lip, but in order to accomplish that, I have to choose my battles carefully. Of course, life doesn’t respect our wishes in such matters, but we can switch certain tasks out of our consciousness until such time as we are able to act. Sometimes, just getting through today is enough.
I think I’ll sit in the sun and have a cigar.
Sounds like a strategy.
“When I said, “My foot is slipping, your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94: 18-19
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!” Revelation 21: 4-5a
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9
Prayers as always. God will get you through this!
Thanks, whoever you are. It was a verse I needed to hear.
Will pray your prayer alongside with you. Our Lord is faithful and all-knowing, and He has promised to never leave us, in whatever condition or place we find ourselves, and will bring us through to a good end. As someone has said, “keep your eyes upon Jesus”.
Thanks again.
