I Miss My Pets

Yes, they like to ride around on your shoulder.

This is the first time since I was six years old or so that we haven’t had any pets to share our life.

Looking back on it: cats, dog, turtle (we used to take him on vacation with us)… a wide assortment of lizards large and small (for 17 years I had my iguana: he thought he was a mammal)… rats, mice, various fish… Did I miss anybody?

Now our health is shot and we can’t take care of pets. How I miss them! Even the aquarium with crickets, merrily chirping away on New Year’s Day, with the snow coming down outside.

Maybe someday we can return to normalcy.

  1. I certainly hope and pray you will be able to return to normalcy. I fully understand what it is like to be unable to do so. Life has been nowhere near normal for me for two years now. It is just so weird. I am a lot older than you, so I hope you will make it back to normal very soon.

  2. I still miss my dog, Leo, and its been over 40 years. I haven’t had any pets for a long time. However, my next-door neighbor, never took care of their dog, and she would spend a lot of time with me. They moved away a few months ago, and of course they left their dog. She has now become mine. Its nice to have a pet after many years without one. I never knew the dogs’ name, so of course I named her Dog.

Our pets that are long gone, our loved ones who have passed away, are still with us, in our memories. I pray that God would bless you and Patty, with a return to normalcy.

  3. Our pets are a gift from God. I have a lovely cat who is my constant companion. She sleeps nearby every night, lies on my chest as I wake up in the morning, then jumps on my lap when I have my morning tea. She spends most of the day close to me, and by late afternoon or evening, she is right next to me, on my favorite chair. When I go to bed, a few hours from now, she will follow me into the bedroom, and stake out her place on the bed, staying nearby all night.

I pray for the health of everyone on this blog, and am thankful for this community. The health challenges you faced are formidable, but you’ve done well in powering through the challenges. I am confident that you will return to normalcy, fairly soon. Perhaps, at that point, you will be able to give a home to another pet.
