Ooh, ooh! Bottles of cold water! Somebody call the cops!
I was a reporter, years ago. I covered the suburbs, the developments, the local news that people cared about.
I cannot say that I have ever heard one favorable word about homeowners’ associations.
Why is that? Well, take a look at this story here.

They want to fine this guy for giving people free bottles of cold water. This is in Arizona, so you know people will be roasting from the heat. The man says he won’t pay the fines–so what comes next? Prison? A firing squad?
My parents lived in one of those gated communities. What a pain in the tuchas! The HOA was nothing but bullies and busybodies who loved to interfere in other people’s lives.
Get this. The homeowners voted 190-20 (!) to remove, depose, kick out, reject, and dump their homeowners’ association, adding all new members. But the current HOA dreamed up a laundry list of “reasons” why the vote didn’t count and they can just stay in power forever.
Folks, be unified, be strong! If you stand together, you can beat these jerks.
When I lived in Minnesota, with frigid winters, offering a guest a cup of coffee when they arrived at your home was the norm. Sure, it was nice, but when it’s -25 F, outside, a cup of coffee can be the difference between a comfortable visit or having guests whom are shaking off the cold for the first 30 minutes of the visit. Yes, we were sociable folk, but a warm beverage had practical value beyond superficial social niceties.
In Arizona, access to water can literally be a matter of life and death. There is a law in Arizona making it a crime to deny water to someone in need. In this climate, offering someone access to water is far more than a matter sociability.
It’s not uncommon for a business meeting to include bottled water, in these parts. It’s all but expected in most business settings, especially in the heat of summer, but year ‘round, hydration is a challenge in these parts. When I ride my bike, I take an insulated bottle of water and usually consume ann electrolyte drink before taking my ride. Fail to properly hydrate, and you can end up in serious trouble, very quickly.
I sure support this fellow’s fight against the HOA. How anyone can find harm in placing a cooler full of bottled water on his driveway with a sign offering this free of time to passersby, is beyond me.
They’ve got some rule against “advertising.” What they’ve actually got is swelled heads.
That’s stretching the definition of advertising. It reminds me of idiot cops who would shut down lemonade stands, because the children didn’t have a business license.
