They’re blaming it on COVID, a shrinking birth rate–heck, blame it on the Bossa Nova. Between now and 2029, enrollment is projected to plummet 15%. Administrators hope to fill the hole by using college land for senior citizens’ housing.
Nowhere is there any suggestion that the colleges’ romance with assorted Far Left Crazy projects–DEI, for instance (“Diversity, Equity, Inclusion”)–coupled with increasingly high tuition, is at all responsible for what they’ve begun to call “the enrollment cliff.” As in plunging off a cliff.
Maybe people don’t want to spend dizzying amounts of money for “education” that doesn’t educate.
There’s even a suggestion that senior citizens might decide to spend the rest of their lives in higher education. But that’s the stuff of nightmares.
“Everybody has to go to college!” doesn’t seem to be turning out as jim-dandy as administrators have hoped.
