It’s too bad neither the dogs nor the babies can tell us what’s going on in their minds when they meet. Some babies laugh, but some babies cry. I haven’t seen any dogs cry about it; but most of them are older and more experienced than the tiny babies in this video.
I never saw a real bulldog until I was grown up. I just saw the bulldogs in cartoons, where they always appeared to be ferocious and at least as dangerous as starving alligators. Turns out cartoons aren’t such a good intro to reality.
Oh… what you just heard offstage was my mother plotzing over the baby and the bulldog taking turns chewing on the rubber ball. There are things, Igor, which no human being ought to see…
The first pet I ever had that was not a goldfish was a newt. He didn’t do well on the alleged “turtle food” they sold in the pet store.
My doctor says that babies who play with dogs or cats develop stronger immune systems than babies who don’t. I don’t think my poor little newt was up to that.
I’m convinced that dogs and cats fully understand that babies and toddlers are the human version of puppies or kittens; and they act accordingly. The dog will protect her human baby (and we’ve seen cats do it, too). And pet mice would do it if they could.
Warning: If you are easily grossed out, there is a little detail in this video that will not be your cup of tea. If my mother could have seen it, she would have plotzed.

I am told I’d better tell you what it is, so here goes: ball in dog’s mouth, and then in baby’s mouth. But look at it scientifically. It will help develop Baby’s immune system.
This little girl is only two years old and she’s already helping a friend in need–the family dog, Lulu. The dog’s upset because the owner has gone out. The baby understands that and sets out to make the dog feel better. I don’t know about you, but I’m impressed! That’s quite a head on those little shoulders.
We don’t know what they’re saying to each other, this baby and the great big husky; but they certainly seem to understand each other. Note the baby isn’t the least bit afraid of this enormous do.

Cute little girl and excitable dog sharing a Christmas tree–what could go wrong? I can’t tell if the tree has been purposely decorated with dog toys for the dog to pull off: but then he declares a vendetta against the little girl’s stuffed snowman. The child doesn’t seem to mind. Maybe she’ll grow up with odd notions.
I guess the puppy is supposed to watch over the sleeping baby; but sleepiness can be contagious. How long can the puppy keep up the unequal struggle?

See how good cats and dogs are with babies. It must be so good for a baby! I’m sure if I had this as a baby, I would have grown up to be more polite to Verizon representatives.
