‘How Firm a Foundation’

This was the first hymn that came into my head this morning, so that’s why it’s here–How Firm a Foundation, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band. We used to sing it to the tune of O Come All Ye Faithful, in the old Dutch Reformed Church.

Oh, the sun on our Christmas tree ornaments this morning! I wish you could see it.

Bonus Hymn, ‘How Firm a Foundation’

Viewership’s way down, it’s raining cats and dogs–such fun, with our morning errands!–and this hymn has been on my mind all day so far, so I reckon I ought to post it, that the Lord wants me to…

How Firm a Foundation, sung by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band–the old-fashioned way.

‘How Firm a Foundation’

I am sure we used to sing this, in our church, to the “Adeste Fideles” (“O Come All Ye Faithful”) melody in our church. Ah, well, it’s good this way, too–

How Firm a Foundation, sung the old-fashioned way by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

Still sitting here groggy, still sick…

How about an old-fashioned hymn, done the old-fashioned way? How Firm a Foundation, by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band–yes, that’s the ticket.

‘How Firm a Foundation’

In our old Dutch Reformed hymnal, way back when, this hymn was sung to the tune of Adeste Fideles. I haven’t heard it sung that way since.

This morning’s hymn, How Firm a Foundation, has been found in hymnals going back to 1787. Performed here the old-fashioned way, by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

‘How Firm a Foundation’

Let’s start this blogging day with an old-fashioned hymn–How Firm a Foundation, sung by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band. This is probably what the hymn sounded like when it was new.

We are open all day and all night for hymn requests.

‘How Firm a Foundation’

We already have several hymn requests this morning, and I’ll post them all during the course of the day. And help me out, people! I’ll need about 400 views today to climb out of the hole.

How Firm a Foundationby our dear friends and colleagues Joshua and Jeremy: click “CC” for the lyrics. Maybe someday we can get these guys to sing.

‘How Firm a Foundation’

In the church I grew up in, they sang this hymn to the tune of O Come All Ye Faithful. I wonder if ours was the only church that did that.

Anyway, I really couldn’t resist the background sets found here: How Firm a Foundation, sung by Catherine Lovett.

‘How Firm a Foundation’

How Firm a Foundation is one of my favorite hymns; and the way it’s performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band is probably very close to the way it sounded when it was first sung in the 18th century.
