Before I wade out into dirty waters, I hope none of you mind if I play Light of the World again: words by Charles Wesley, music by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band, content by the Holy Spirit.
Christ Out Lord shall set His throne upon the earth.

Sometimes a day of tracking the news just knocks the stuffing out of me. This hymn, and God’s grace, puts it back in: Who Would True Valor See, words by John Bunyan–who knew a thing or three about these things!–with music by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.
Meanwhile, what can be done for a great city sliding into sin? That was a sticking-point today, for my new book, The Temptation. And, as He has so often done before, the Lord gave me the next step in telling the story–something I never would have thought of on my own. Something that, quite frankly, blew me away.
For which I give Him the glory and my thanks, and pray my work will be fruitful in His service.
Love Divine, All Loves Excelling, by Charles Wesley: an 18th-century hymn with a solid Biblical message. Just listen to the lyrics (“Finish, then, thy new creation…”). Beautifully and soothingly performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.
The only excuse I have for posting this hymn again is that I love it, and it deeply moves me–Light of the World by Charles Wesley, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band. Like so many of Wesley’s hymns, it’s a prayer set to music. And it tells us, “God is nigh.”
Swirling darkness and confusion, corruption as deep and as wide as the ocean, folly heaped on folly, delusion hailed as truth and wisdom, wickedness enthroned–
But the light of Jesus Christ is the light they can’t put out. And this is the only true light, the only light for us to see by.
Light of the World–written by Charles Wesley, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.
A Charles Wesley hymn, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band: Soldiers of Christ, Arise.
As is not unusual, the youtube page for this hymn includes a comment by an atheist, responding to it rather–I think–wistfully. To which I can only answer, “Sister, come in! The feast is on the table, and there’s a chair here with your name on it!”
Running a bit late here, on this cold and rainy day. But here’s something to warm us up: Charles Wesley’s Love Divine All Loves Excelling, performed by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.
This is one of my all-time favorite hymns, O Worship the King–and I just love the way Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band perform it.
Now, be honest: if you’d been the one creating the world, would you have thought to wire music into it? Well, God did!
This hymn stirs my soul. I hope it stirs yours, too.
Written by Charles Wesley. Sung by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band. Blessed by Our Father in Heaven.

This is the hymn the old-fashioned way. This is how George Washington would have heard it, in his lifetime.
