Yesterday (Aaaaaghhh!)

How The Scream became the ultimate image for our political ...

I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

Yesterday’s hospital visit took two hours instead of 20 minutes. As I lay in an extravagantly uncomfortable position, after a while they had me get up and go outside and wait because the &^%& computer wanted to be rebooted, start all over. Yes, do the whole thing over again. Time marches on.

What’s that? You thought you were going to go home? Not yet, chumley! You have to see the doctor, and he can ask you questions that you don’t understand. Only when the in-and-out traffic has reached its peak will they let you go. Must’ve been ten thousand people at that hospital.

And we’ll do it all again today!

And it’s only Wednesday.

Now It’s Chemotherapy

Yeah, I find it rather scary. But monsters were made to be cut down.

Over the years, I’ve heard all sorts of extravagantly scary stories about chemotherapy; and now it’s my turn to have it.

It seems simple enough. I take three poisonous pills at 10 A.M. and 10 P.M., with another pill to stave off nausea. So far none of the scary stuff has happened. But I have a long way to go, five days a week for the next five weeks: the object is to shrink the polyps and maybe, if I’m very much blessed, to the point where surgery won’t be needed.

Oh–and a radiation treatment on each of all those days. If I wind up glowing in the dark, that means something’s wrong. I’ll be having one this afternoon.

I need to be here, at least somewhat healthy, for my wife. And I want to be here to see if my work bears fruit.

I thank you for your prayers.

Oh, Holy Cow!

We have just had a tele-conference with one of my many doctors (or was she a nurse?), and I’m a nervous wreck. Just getting it set up was a Labor of Hercules. I must’ve understood only about four words in ten.

Looks like life is going to get very, very complicated for a while.

All this stuff! Patty understands it, I let her do the talking. And most of the listening, too. I can’t help it, it goes right over my head every time. She says the conference made her feel much better. I’d be very far up the creek without her.

And none of this has anything to do with my crumbling hip.

Well, I don’t know what else to say. Too bad I’ve already had my cigar for the day.
