It’s Hard to Get Started

I know my output has been skimpy lately. I start running out of energy around noontime. It’s this damned bug we picked up at the (LOL) “rest home.”

Looking back, I see it’s been practically a whole year since I’ve been healthy. Radiation. Chemotherapy. Shave (?) the prostate gland. Poking a tube in and out of the smallest opening in the male human body. Colon surgery. Bad dreams galore. Sleep deficit. And they haven’t yet tackled my busted hip.

I want to ride my bike. I want to play basketball. I want a cat. Are these forever out of reach? I want to get back to work on my books. How wrong is this?

(All right, turn off the self-pity! Information is one thing, moaning another.)

I don’t know how much more of this I can take.

Yesterday’s hospital visit took two hours instead of 20 minutes. As I lay in an extravagantly uncomfortable position, after a while they had me get up and go outside and wait because the &^%& computer wanted to be rebooted, start all over. Yes, do the whole thing over again. Time marches on.

What’s that? You thought you were going to go home? Not yet, chumley! You have to see the doctor, and he can ask you questions that you don’t understand. Only when the in-and-out traffic has reached its peak will they let you go. Must’ve been ten thousand people at that hospital.

And we’ll do it all again today!

And it’s only Wednesday.
