One of my favorites, requested by Erlene–Doc Watson singing What a Friend We Have in Jesus–almost brought to tears, too. This is a hymn that makes people pause and listen, if you whistle it as you go by on the sidewalk.
Hard to sing this without feeling it! I’m not sure that can be done.
I posted this hymn a few days ago, with Doc Watson singing it, but “thewhiterabbit” has asked for it again today–and, well, I do try to fulfill all hymn requests. We can’t have too many hymns.

This hymn never fails to move me–What a Friend We Have in Jesus, performed by Doc Watson. You know he’s sung this hymn in public more times than he can count; but look what happens when he sings it.

Let’s share a hymn. How many times must Doc Watson have performed this hymn for an audience, and still could hardly get through it without giving in to tears? What a Friend We Have in Jesus… “take it to the Lord in prayer.”
If I had a working guitar, and the talent to make music on it, I’d sing and play this hymn until I cried my eyes out.
And I would be the better for it.

The last thing I do on this blog, each night, is to load a hymn for the morning. This is an old Sunday school favorite–What a Friend We Have in Jesus–and I couldn’t resist the image of the flowing stream: I used to know places like that. Something to take to the Lord in prayer…
People have been loving this hymn since the 1860s–What a Friend We Have in Jesus. Here we have it performed by the students at Fountainview Academy, British Columbia.
My wife’s medicine that started out so well has produced difficulties, so off we go to the doctor. Maybe he can prescribe something else. Please pray for us.
