This is the classic Welsh hymn, Hyfrydol, performed with Scottish bagpipes, modern organ, in a church in Kentucky. It’s one of my very favorite hymns.
Sure is an awful lot of evil and distressing national news today, ain’t it? But I shall try to follow the example of Judah the Maccabee, who, although engaged in a life-and-death struggle for his country and his faith, would not fight a battle on the Sabbath day, unless he was attacked: this was how he proclaimed the sovereignty of God. No, I will not write up the news today.
Sit back and let the hymn wash over you. God is in the midst of us. He has not forgotten us, and He hears us when we cry to Him.
I will honor your sabbath day non-aggression by not commenting on how grating the “pipes” are to the ear 😉 God Bless!
My cats don’t like bagpipes, either, but I always have.
Even better than the bagpipes and organ is the full Welsh choir.
Is there a version of this hymn with lyrics? I don’t believe I’ve ever heard it.
There are several different sets of lyrics, depending on which denomination’s hymnal you’re using. According to Cyberhymnal, the first English lyrics were Catholic.
Let me see if I can find it with English lyrics for you.

Ron, if that’s on youtube, I’ll be happy to post it here. I would ask you to email me something, but unless it’s just a link that I can copy, I lack the computer skills to do much more. It takes me just forever to learn this stuff.
