Flashback: Mondale on Taxes

Some things never change! Democrats and their mania for raising taxes, just to name one.

Return with me to good old 1984. Walter Mondale, Jimmy Carter’s vice president, has just received the Democrat presidential nomination, and the crowd on the floor is gleefully celebrating.

First he said, “Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He won’t tell you. I just did.”

The crowd continued to whoop it up. And in an aside that was later to become, er, famous, Mondale remarked, “Look at ’em. We’re going to tax their ass off.” ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/781144/posts ).

That’s what never changes.

That’s why our national debt exceeds $18 trillion.

Will we ever, ever, ever learn?

  1. We never seem to learn. Instead we keep putting the same incompetents in office, in part, I think, due to apathy. The ruling class has their agenda, no matter which party they belong to.

  2. A democrat can say anything, and other democrats won’t bat an eye. In fact, they’ll parade them on their shoulders. Why? Because they think high taxes won’t affect *them*. It’ll affect those ‘other people’ who ‘deserve it’.

    1. Yes–the official Democrat Platform this year contains the inevitable pledge “to make the rich”–whoever the blazes they are, it sure ain’t John Kerry–“pay their fair share” of the taxes. When they’re already paying more than half the total bill.

But of course there are all sorts of plans to sock it to the middle class (what’s left of it!), too.

If people actually had some idea where money comes from, or how wealth is generated–but what am I saying? If they did have any such idea, public school and collidge would knock it out of them toot-sweet.
