We have this request from Joshua, Are You Washed in the Blood of the Lamb, by Willie Nelson.
Somehow I always associated this hymn with the Salvation Army. Actually, it was written in 1878 by Elisha Hoffman–who also wrote Leaning on the Everlasting Arms… not to mention another 2,000 or so.

So many of country singers will do gospel songs but not live a gospel life. My daughter works a side job at the Arkansas Music Pavilion, and was able to meet Willie Nelson when his entourage performed there. She says he is really spaced out from all the pot he smokes. Can a person be a Christian and a pothead? Marijuana churches are popping up all across America. Instead of watering down the gospel, they seem to be smoking up the gospel.
I don’t think it’s an idle point, Linda. But I wouldn’t want to take it too far. Elvis Presley, for instance: I think he was sincere in his devotion to the Lord, albeit living a messed-up life that wound up killing him.
One way or another, God gets glorified.

I’d heard about that… but I try not to turn down hymn requests.

From that criteria, who would sing any hymns, gospel or otherwise? Willie Nelson will answer to God, not us. Let him who is without sin . . .
