Comment Contest: 163 to Go

G’day, mates! Byron the Quokka here, and my comment contest is plodding along like a wombat hitched to a cartful of bricks–what ever made me think I could do this job???

The goal is 47,000, with 163 left to go. The winner gets an autographed copy of one of Lee’s Bell Mountain books. If you win that, and the Bell Mountain Trivia Contest, you’ll become the proud owner of a ship! The good ship Tar Princess is waiting for you. All you’ll have to do is drag it off the sandbank and touch it up with a lick of paint.

Here in Oz it’s the middle of winter, although up here on Rottnest Island, it don’t get too cold. Most of us quokkas would love a chance to frolic in the snow, but fair dunkum fat chance of that!

Would you believe it–only 12 comments today? Crikey, I should’ve kept me mouth shut when they were lookin’ for volunteers to run this caper.

It’d all be so different if he’d just let me hand out a bicycle to the winner!

  1. tut tut, Byron, buck up ol’ buddy. I would much prefer the book (if I should be so lucky to win) than a bicycle. Last time I tried riding one, I fell over
and had to give it up. But then, I have always been a book worm just as soon as I was old enough to hold one and turn the pages, so we’re all good.

  2. Lee has said that might be the next prize. Byron do not want a bike as I too fell a bike and never been on one since.

  3. When I was about 10 I “borrowed” a friend’s bike when no one was around to see if I could ride it. I just knew that you had to keep pedaling to keep it going, otherwise it would tip over. No idea about brakes or anything like that.
So I got on and started pedaling. I sped down the driveway, straight across the street (no cars coming, thankfully), and ran smack into the curb on the other side of the street. I flew over the handlebars and landed on my face. My wrist was broken in two places and a tooth went through my lower lip!

Being young at the time, I was in a cast for 8 weeks, healed fine, and went back to riding a bike as soon as I could. Still have a small scar on my lip, though.
