‘A Walking Law’ (Chalcedon Blog, Sept. 28)

If the people are lawless at heart, you can station a policeman on every street corner and you’ll still have crime.

This is why God has devised a new covenant to be written on our hearts and lived out in the world–for everyone to see.

The problem with the Old Covenant was that God’s people couldn’t keep it. Again and again they rallied back around the law, and again and again they fell away from it. So God made a better covenant, and sent His Son to establish it. A covenant of grace. A covenant of the law written not on tables of stone, but on our hearts.

Do God’s laws and God’s grace clash with each other? St. Paul has answered that question.

“Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law” (Romans 3:31)

  1. We need to make God’s laws a part of us. They are simple and consistent. Love God and love your neighbor as yourself sums it all up. That is the solution the Bernie Madoff, the solution to Jeffrey Epstein and the solution to histories most brutal tyrants.

  2. This is one of my most treasured Scriptures. It fortifies me against all such arguments as “I’m not Jewish, so I’m not under the Law”… This is not the only Scripture that makes this statement, but it is plain and simple for any and all who desire at all to please the Almighty.

  3. Thank you for this, it is our love for the Lord that makes us desire to walk in His ways.

Thank you also for praying for our church brother, Eddy. After a long and valiant struggle, he went to be with the Lord this morning. Please pray for his family, and particularly his wife. They were married for 65 years.

    1. I just happened to see that prayer request the other day, and was wondering how things had turned out. O Father, please comfort Eddy’s family, and especially his wife–in Jesus’ name, amen.
