By Request, ‘Go Down, Moses’

Phoebe asked for this classic spiritual, and we’re happy to oblige. Gee, I remember singing this at Y Camp sing-along–Go Down, Moses. “Down to Egypt-land… Tell old Pharaoh, Let my people go.” I think this rendition by Louis Armstrong is the most popular one. (Sorry–couldn’t find one with more verses.)

Hey, everybody–time to fill the hymn-cart again!

  1. Great!

I keep thinking we should use this as a theme song if and when the Powers That Be declare the next round of lockdowns. But no, we’d probably be accused of (a) cultural appropriation and (b) incitement to violence.

  2. Speaking of Satchmo and/or singalongs, by the way, how about another old favorite: “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
