An Atheist No More

(Thanks to Susan for telling me about this.)

Jordan Peterson, former psychology professor and now best known as a mostly conservative commentator on news, social, and religious issues, might be called Canada’s own C.S. Lewis. Like Lewis, he is a former atheist who now airs a Christian message. He expresses it with a passion we can see and hear.

His wisdom, like our own, falls short of the wisdom of Scripture. I’m not holding him up as any kind of prophet. But the man used to be an atheist, and he isn’t anymore. That’s important. That’s something for us to rejoice in and look further into.

The video interview is 18 minutes long, but well worth hearing. Here is a man who heard Christ knocking at his door, and opened it to Him.

Our poor, fallen world is sorely in need of this.

  1. Yes! Praise the Lord for each and every one who comes to his/her senses and sees the truth and accepts.

  2. He makes some great points. If we fully comprehended what it means to believe in God, that might be scary. Just remember the Israelites, who had followed a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day, and witnessed the defeat of Pharaoh and the most powerful army on earth. Yet, when God manifested Himself, they became frightened and sent Moses to talk to God … alone.

When Christ gathers His own, how will that be accomplished? There are any number of denominations that consider themselves to be Christian, and in some cases, there is significant disagreement between some of these groups as to what it means to be a Christian? With this in mind, I find Peterson’s approach refreshing. He seems to concentrate on what believing in God requires on his part and he doesn’t seem to be mired in denominational issues or endless debates.

Whatever the case, this is a man that has realized that he is part of a creation that is much bigger than himself, and much bigger than and human can hope to fully comprehend. As he points out, such a realization affects how we view the significance of others, even when these other people may be at odds with our beliefs. So I see Jordan Peterson’s personal testimony as indicative of how God can draw people to Him without the baggage of denominational differences.

John 10:1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.”

When the time comes, Christ will call His own and they will know His voice.
