‘Christ the Lord Is Risen Today’

Easter’s almost here, so let’s have an Easter hymn.

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, by Charles Wesley, sung by the Yoder Family–oh, how many times we sang this, back in Sunday school!

  1. Catholics and other liturgical communions are still in Lent — in fact, in Passiontide, with Holy Week coming up next week: Holy Thursday (evening Mass of the Last Supper), Good Friday (Crucifixion), and Holy Saturday (empty tabernacle signifying Christ in the tomb, leading up to the vigil and midnight Mass of Easter). So instead of starting Easter while we’re still bracing ourselves for the upcoming Passion and Death of Our Lord, I’d like to request a Lenten hymn: “O Sacred Head Surrounded” — and maybe tomorrow “These Forty Days of Lent.”

  2. Our Lutheran church observes the Lenten season. This song is always sung on Resurrection Sunday. During Holy Week we meet Thursday-Saturday night services in preparation of the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Sunday – it is glorious!!
