This is a standard hymn that’s sung in a lot of Catholic churches during Lent — maybe in other liturgical communions as well. I’ve always liked it.
I never heard it in the Dutch Reformed Church in which I grew up. I can’t help thinking nowadays that the elders of that church didn’t take the Bible as seriously as they should have. But I’m still grateful for what I learned there.
