While I was busy in the kitchen this morning, my wife played this piece of music on her computer. It stirred my soul. At any minute I expected, when the music stopped, Homer to stand up and tell us the tale of Troy, the wrath of Achilles. Amazingly, this seemed to be exactly what the music sought to convey: it’s called “Skyrim–Ancient Stones.”
I thought you might enjoy listening to it as I write my Newswithviews column. To me it sounds like something Odysseus might have heard as he wandered the sea, searching for his home in Ithaca. So long, so long ago.
Skyrim is an action video game. I know nothing about the game itself, but it has received high praise for its soundtrack. Quite a few people have done covers of songs from the game that are just fantastic.
I don’t play video games, but it was a swell piece of music.
Jeremy Soule is the composer and has created some absolutely incredible soundtracks for video games over the years, astronomically raising the bar for video game soundtracks. His Morrowind soundtrack (another earlier game in the Elder Scrolls series) is my all-time favorite.
