Your Friendly Fox

It’s wonderful to win the trust of a wild animal–sort of a peek into paradise. We used to know an egret who got chummy with humans. He’d ride in our rowboat with us. But a fox–wow, that’s really something.

  1. If animals somehow become hungry enough, they are willing to set aside other considerations in order to be fed. I have experienced it somewhat when we had
the badger. She was young and her mother had died, and when we offered her
food, she was eager to receive.

  2. I’ve seen this fellow’s videos before. Besides the fox, there was one where he was walking alongside a huge alligator. In one of the fox videos, the fox actually came inside his house, and even curled up on a dog bed, although not for very long.

I’m not sure if animals are becoming tamer, or if it’s just because smartphones have equipped so many people with video cameras, but we are sure seeing some amazing videos, of late. I know that the deer in my neighborhood will walk right up to you, if you have anything in your hand. I went outside with a tool in my hand and a doe walked right up to see if it was something a deer might want to eat. I would say that being within six feet of a deer is a fairly common experience, at my place, especially in the cooler months, when they tend to congregate in the neighborhood.

But a fox; that’s amazing. They are very skittish, by nature, and some are downright hostile. I wonder how long he worked to gain their trust.
