The Taming of the Chipmunk

Wow! I didn’t know you could get this friendly with a chipmunk. I wonder if I could do it. We have chipmunks in our neighborhood–especially on the shady spot where I sit down to write. I think I’ll try putting some birdseed by my chair and see who takes me up on it.

Your Friendly Fox

It’s wonderful to win the trust of a wild animal–sort of a peek into paradise. We used to know an egret who got chummy with humans. He’d ride in our rowboat with us. But a fox–wow, that’s really something.

A Fox in the House

The fox in this video is a wild fox, not a pet. But he doesn’t live in the wilds. Like many other foxes, he lives in an environment shaped and dominated by and for human beings. Look how well he’s adapted to it.

Now I miss the deer who used to saunter into our yard while I was writing.

P.S.–We knew someone who’d made friends with an egret. But don’t let the egret into your house. (Take a wild guess why not.)

Friendly Chipmunks

Rodents may be little, but they’re very smart and adaptable. We don’t see chipmunks around here very often, but I have enjoyed friendships with squirrels and rabbits. How did they know they could trust me? Sit on the step with a squirrel sitting next to you, munching on a peanut–sweet.
