‘Have We Dodged a Bullet?’ (My Newswithviews Column, March 7)

Roman Symposium | Statue Julius Caesar in Velzeke, Belgium ...

The Romans wrecked their republic. Can we keep ours?

In voting unanimously, 9-0, that individual states can’t remove candidates from the ballot in a national election, the Supreme Court has very likely saved us from a very messy situation. We might have been taking the first steps toward the destruction of our Constitutional republic.

Not that Democrats would shed a tear for that!

Have We Dodged a Bullet?

Republics are not invincible. The Romans wrecked theirs, big-time. That history is messy, violent, and ugly.

“We had to destroy the country in order to rule it.”

They don’t say it, but I’m convinced they believe it.

  1. We lost our Republic after the Civil War and it has just gotten worse, but God can restore it through a faithful people to His law and Word. The Bible is full of historical narratives where God did just that – Ninevah come to mind.

  2. Yes, if we look at the world around us, we could become very despondent, but I thank God that we do not have to look at this mess; instead, keep our eyes on eternity.
