When It’s Okay to Ignore the First Amendment

I’m going to write this up for Newswithviews, but I think the subject is important enough to justify giving you a sneak preview here.

As we read this, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing a case in which the government argues that it’s okay to suspend the First Amendment if that’s what it takes to deal with an emergency–in this case, a “Once-in-a-lifetime Pandemic” (https://thefederalist.com/2024/03/18/federal-government-claims-once-in-a-lifetime-pandemic-excuses-first-amendment-violations/). Yowsah, yowsah, we gotta do what we gotta do!

Uh-huh… Until it becomes apparent that they’re all once-in-a-lifetime emergencies that must be tackled with whatever it takes. Suddenly election interference and Hunter Biden’s laptop furnish excuses for suspending that pesky First Amendment.

God help us if the Court lets them get away with this.

But I’m afraid He won’t help us. I mean, why should He?

  1. Father God uses corrupt government actions as a means of correcting His people. He did it often in the time of the Tanakh (O.T.) and He never changes. If His people don’t wise up with a view of the obvious, He increases the pressure.

  2. Well, the Federal gov’t is already abridging the First Amendment. This current case before the Supreme Court is stop the Federal gov’t from continuing to abridge the First Amendment. Prayers for Clarenc Thomas to stand strong and bring John Roberts along whimpering and whining to agree with the Constitution. The Second Amendment is for when the Federal gov’t does allow not allow the First one.
