The baby quail was just a little bigger than his thumbnail, and he successfully raised it to adulthood. And then, look at this–a whole platoon of little tiny quail! And it seems they really like their human.
A little glimpse of paradise.

Very heartwarming. I see families of Gamble’s Quail on my bike rides. I male quail out front with his mate and numerous tiny quail following behind. As I get closer, they all take to the wing, at exactly the same instant, and the little ones form a cloud of tiny birds, who look too small to fly. If Roadrunners hadn’t existed, Gambel’s Quail might well have been given that name, because they run down the road with at least as much resistance to taking flight as do Roadrunners. Either species will fly when it suits them, but both species would prefer to conduct business from the ground.
It amazes me, how many videos we see of animals bonded to humans. From Messi, my favorite Mountain Lion, to reptiles (including a very docile albino alligator) to all sorts of birds and some large cats that are surprisingly docile. There is a young lady in Siberia whom keeps a Melanistic Leopard as a housepet, and while it’s definitely a Leopard, it’s also very docile, and not even slightly ill-tempered.
That animal-human bond is a glimpse of what God has in store for us.
I’m certain that you are right about that. Our Maker created a home for us, and for the animals, which is astounding in its beauty. Think of it, every animal you see, descended from the “kinds” brought onto the Ark. Kinds are thought to be roughly at the Family level, in animal classification, and all of the diversity we see, such as in felines from the massive Liger to the diminutive Sand Cat, came from what our Creator devised as he embedded variety into the various kinds.
It’s obvious that God cares for the animals he created and will protect their variety. I’m also certain that we have grossly underestimated animals. They are not created in God’s image, but they are very smart and I believe that they are capable of deep feelings.
One night, years ago, I was late getting home from work, and the cat I had at the time was upset. A friend was waiting for me at my house, and told me that the cat was agitated when I didn’t get home on time. When I finally arrived, the cat rushed to me and wanted to be held. He buried his head against me and seemed to be expressing relief. I can come to no other conclusion than that he was worried about me.
My understanding is that God will restore the earth to the condition it was in, prior to the fall of man. That fall affected all of creation, as we can read at Romans 8:18-25. If all creation is groaning, that suggests to me that the animal kingdom is highly affected. I am cut to the heart at the thought that innocent animals have suffered through no fault of their own.
When God restores creation to the state of “very good”, which is how it was described before the fall, then this suffering will end. We’ll all get to experience heartwarming animal encounters, and there will probably be more surprises to come.
Good remarks, Guys. I know it will be amazingly blessed when all evil is removed from the earth and God’s beautiful ways are restored for us to enjoy.
