That is amazing. What is a performative prayer? Apparently it’s in the eyes of the beholder, and if the beholder is looking to make trouble; well, we all know where this can go. Restricting prayer is not new. There is a biblical example, which caused a lot of problems, but God did provide deliverance.
The framers of this law may not have intended to outlaw praying in one’s own home, that is effectively a feasible result of such a law. If I lived in a protest prohibition zone, I would keep the shades drawn any time I intended to pray, but sometimes a person may feel the need for prayer on short notice. I would not want to bear the responsibility of having voted for a law which has the effect of inhibiting anyone’s ability to pray.
We are afforded prayer to our Creator in the name of Christ Jesus. This is a wonderful gift, and it comes from the Highest of all sources. There are many people with whom I have theological disagreements, but I would never take it upon myself to in any way inhibit their right to petition our Creator. To do so would not be a good idea, for anyone, including someone in a political position.
Note that I had to add a link–didn’t want anyone to think I was making this up.
Without the link, it would have sounded like satire.
It’s unbelievable how quick some of these people are to infringe on freedom of speech and freedom of worship.
