Donald Trump and Linda McMahon: the game has changed
Well, well! It looks like hoity-toity liberal colleges can’t do just anything they please. Like turning a blind eye to antisemitism on campus, and non-compliance with anti-discrimination laws.
The big shots at Columbia University thought they could. That’s $400 million down the drain: President Trump has pulled your grants and canceled your contracts.
America’s brand-new Secretary of Education, Linda McMahon, warned colleges and universities that schools that try to be like Columbia will wind up having to pay like Columbia.
Some of these people need to get out more often. The world isn’t like they think it is.
One would think that the dangers of antisemitism would be obvious to everyone, but apparently not. In any event, while protest if legally protected in the US, rioting, causing damage or harming others is not legal. Enforce the laws fairly and evenly. If someone comes here on a student visa and gets into legal trouble, I can’t feel sorry for them if their education is interrupted.
Unrelated to antisemitism, I recall hearing about a young fellow in the US for Commercial Pilot training. He became angry when his instructor didn’t solo him when he thought he was ready. That choice obviously has to be at the discretion of the instructor, who is responsible to make certain that the the student is capable of safely completing the flight, and also that the weather conditions are such that an inexperienced student will not be overwhelmed. My own first solo was delayed for several flight hours because of persistent crosswinds.
Anyhow, this student, in the US on a student visa, deliberately damaged several aircraft at the flight school. He seemed shocked that he would probably be deported, but vandalizing an aircraft is a Federal offense. Most likely, his career training is over, but he made a very poor decision and has paid the price.
Piece of advice; don’t commit crimes while on a student visa.
