They weren’t getting ready for a slumber party, were they?
The British Supreme Court has ordered Prime Minister Keit Starmer to step down (“Don’t let the door hit you on the bum on your way out”) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smmmy4jY_bw&t=205s). They’re calling it the biggest government scandal since the 10th century.
No, Starmer wasn’t kicked out for allowing a Muslim invasion of his country, nothing like that. He is just charged with dipping his fingers into the public purse. (Thanks and a hat tip to They’ll Do It Every Time by Jimmy Hatlo.) Heck, what’s 124 thousand pounds?
No one knows what will happen next. A poll shows 72% of the public thinks Starmer should resign, toot-sweet.
Others are investigating whether Starmer took foreign money in return for favors granted. Tut-tut.
This is shaping up to be a serious bummer for the United Kingdom. But then again, maybe now. Maybe it’s not to late to save their country.
I can’t say that I’m shocked. Proverbs 1:32 describes it well.

We’ve seen this play out in many times and places. Powerful politicians following their sexual urges into scandalous folly, or well compensated political figures routinely lying about their primary residency, for financial gain. Theft from the public coffers is nothing new, but in these days of everything being computerized, it’s a fool’s choice, because they will almost certainly be caught.
I’ve never been particularly impressed with Starmer, but he is apparently even less sensible than I would have given him credit for.

If indeed it’s true, this will be ground-shaking, but who knows. I’m seeing some reports, but not as many as I would expect.
Having worked in the Public Sector, it is incumbent upon public employees to avoid even the appearance of getting near the till, so to speak. Purchases have to be done via approved channels and undergo an internal approval process. Avoiding conflict of interest is an absolute necessity.
But Al, of that having been said, it’s startling just how often some fool tries to game the system. I remember one particular sap who approved travel and training reimbursements for himself, and he never actual traveled or attended the training. IOW, he essentially wrote himself a check for phony claims. He was caught, lost his job and when the law wanted to slap his wrist, he protested that he had paid the money back, and should suffer no legal consequences. All of this, over relative pocket change; he didn’t even embezzle enough to make a change in his life, but lost a good job and was convicted of a crime over less money than many people earn in one pay period.
In this case, his body died years ago, following his mind, which obviously had ceased working, long before that.
As to Starmer, he certainly hasn’t impressed me.

The entire British system seems to be in disarray. Nothing would surprise me at this point.

The posts were supposed to go behind certain comments, as replies, but somehow ended up all going to one place, in spite of having clicked the appropriate reply link, and the text box for typing the replies stating that I was replying to specific people. I truly wonder how WordPress stays in business

I haven’t seen anything about this on any of the conservative news sites I know of, or even our online local lefty newsrag. And Starmer was just in DC with the other European leaders and Zelenskyy, without anyone there — including Trump and Starmer himself — seeming to know anything about it. Now, I didn’t watch the entirety of the clip you sent us the link to, so I don’t know all the details, but it seems that he was asked, not ordered, to step down, and in the UK, there has to be some sort of Parliamentary action in the case of a PM’s resignation — in fact, a resignation usually happens after a vote of no confidence in Parliament. Then there has to be a process to re-form a government before a new PM is installed. Again, I don’t know all the details of what was reported in that video, but the video seems to be from a day or two ago (again, while Starmer was at or returning from the DC confab) and surely by now some other sources would have picked up on it by this time. We need to be careful about these things.
Besides, it isn’t just Starmer who’s been creating an Orwellian dystopia in the UK. Local officials, magistrates, and police forces are all in on it as well.
