This version of Am I a Soldier of the Cross?, sung by Doris Johnson, was the No. 1 Gospel hit in February, 2016. I wonder what Isaac Watts would have thought of that? He wrote and published this hymn in 1724.

Listen to the words. Lyrics like these are not in fashion nowadays: “Saints… shall conquer tho’ they die.” Or, as St. Paul put it, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us” (Romans 8:37).
Hard times are here for Christians, and harder times are coming. We’ll need courage to get through them. We’ll need faith.
But greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. God loved the world, and sent His Son to save it. We belong to Him, and He will not lose us.
