Hymn, ‘Praise Ye the Lord the Almighty’

I need to rinse my brain out, after that last post, and this old hymn will do it.

All these hymns come back to me from my Sunday school days–and the days of my church, before I went astray. And the church went astray. God has called me back, but my church is still out there making it all up as they go along.

But never mind. I have the tools now to praise God, and you who join in with me. And if that’s not a church, then what is?

Hymn, ‘He Who Would Valiant Be’

When I hear this hymn, it makes me want to pump my fist and jump up and cry “Yes!” Let’s start our Sunday with it.

You may notice that most of the people in this congregation, singing it, are old. That used to puzzle me when I was young. Now it makes perfect sense: the old, for the most part, really do know better than the young.

But not to divide–let all ages come before the Lord. He wants us all.

Hymn, ‘Am I a Soldier of the Cross’

Hard times are here for Christians, and harder times are coming. We’ll need courage to get through them. We’ll need faith.

But greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. God loved the world, and sent His Son to save it. We belong to Him, and He will not lose us.

This is an ancient hymn, with lyrics by Isaac Watts. Listen to this hymn: listen to the words, and don’t be daunted by the video.

Those stones mark victory.

Hymn, ‘He Leadeth Me’

He leadeth me… Yes, that really is a blessed thought. If you’re not following Jesus Christ, where are you going?

I picked this version of the hymn because I like the sound of it. Feel free to sing along!

P.S.–Remember, I take requests. If there’s a hymn you’d like to see posted here, please let me know. It doesn’t even have to be on a Sunday. Given the condition of this fallen world today, when is a good time not to have a hymn?

Hymn, ‘To God Be the Glory’

Here’s another hymn I never heard before, another high-spirited rendition by the Church of God. That congregation can really sing!

So let’s start our Sunday giving glory to God, and letting Him hear our thanksgiving and praise. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world!

Remember, I’m taking suggestions for hymns to post on Sunday morning, so if there’s a hymn you’d like to see posted here, please let me know.

Hymn, ‘Fairest Lord Jesus’

This old, old hymn still has power to move us.

I like to post a hymn here every Sunday morning.

If you have a favorite hymn, or a couple of favorites, that you’d like to see me post, don’t be bashful–tell me about it. Suggestions are more than welcome.
