Oh, Boy! Science! A Euthanasia Chip

All they that hate me love death.  –Proverbs 8:36

“Scientists” writing for The Hastings Center Report have suggested that people may “choose”–be careful with that word!–to be implanted with a euthanasia chip that kills them instantaneously “at the first sign of dementia” (https://www.lifenews.com/2021/08/12/scientists-want-people-fitted-with-euthanasia-chip-that-kills-you-at-first-sign-of-dementia/).

Shoot, you know it’s false advertising if Joe Biden’s still around.

See, they want the patient to be able to “choose” to “arrange their own deaths without the subsequent intervention of anyone else.”

Do you make that choice in a casual conversation, or at a really low point in your life, or after many hours with “end of life counselors”? I wonder if they get a bounty for every patient who “chooses” to off himself. But the point is, we can’t know how free any of these “choices” ever were. And what would the programmers consider a big-time sign of dementia? Do you want Bill Gates writing that definition? Maxine Waters?

Somehow these always go together–euthanasia, the “right” to suicide, weird sexual practices, and, a recent addition, “transgender.” They belong together because–just as Proverbs tells us–they all lead to death, one way or another. They all constitute rejections of God, the source of life.

Pray for our wretched country, that we might turn back to God before we’re too far gone to think of Him.

Dementia Cases Expected to… Triple?

Here’s a really alarming story that we missed somehow when it came out in 2017.

According to a press release by the World Health Organization (https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/07-12-2017-dementia-number-of-people-affected-to-triple-in-next-30-years), cases of dementia, worldwide, can be expected to triple in the next 30 years, from 50 million to over 150 million.

In 2017 the cost of dementia in the United States was $818 billion–and it may be expected to climb to $2 trillion in the foreseeable future.

There are several kinds of dementia, but the most common–and the worst–is Alzheimer’s Disease.

We cannot handle this without God’s help. We aren’t exactly coping with it now. A crisis like this calls for strong families, strong churches, and strong communities. Simply making the government bigger, and funding bigger and costlier bureaucracies, will not accomplish anything.

Hollowing out our culture will leave us defenseless.

Not Honest! (Plus a Prayer Request)

Patty and I wanted to watch a ghost story last night; and, lo and behold, we found a movie treatment of M.R. James’ Oh, Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad, one of the best ghost stories ever written. There’s a 1968 version starring Michael Hordern as the intellectual know-it-all who gets a very rude awakening, but this new one is longer and stars another great actor, John Hurt.

But first we read the viewer comments.

It turns out there’s no ghost in this rendition, and no freakin’ whistle, either. Instead, it’s a story of dementia. All they did was lift the title–not honest! The story in the movie has nothing to do with the one M.R. James wrote. So we didn’t watch it.

Sorry, but dementia is very much wanting as a source of entertainment, especially when it’s eating up certain members of your family. My brother-in-law, Ray, has it: has it bad. Because it’s not possible to get his permission to divulge any of the details, all I can say is that he needs our prayers. I mean, he really needs them, and I ask you to join me in offering prayer on his behalf. Please, Lord, in Jesus’ name, do something to help him!

I know you can’t copyright a title, but this goes beyond just “based on” and is a highly blameworthy attempt to trick the audience.

Meanwhile, we thank you for your prayers.
