‘We’ll Work Till Jesus Comes’

Wow! This hymn hit me where I feel it–We’ll Work Till Jesus Comes, sung by Doc Watson. I’d never heard it before just now: brought a tear to my eye.

I don’t know if the picture will come out… a sunlit woodland path… and you might meet saints along the way.

‘Down in the Valley to Pray’

This is wonderful! Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Ricky Skaggs, and Allison Krauss–country music legends–sing Down to the Valley to Pray. And there’s more where this came from! My stars, I have to pause and catch my breath…

By Request: Doc Watson, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

Erlene asked for this one–What a Friend We Have in Jesus, sung by Doc Watson. How many times has he sung this hymn? And yet it still moves him; his voice very nearly breaks. But that sometimes happened to me, too, when we sang this one in Sunday school.

‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ (Doc Watson)

I haven’t posted this one in a while, so why not? Doc Watson, singing What a Friend We Have in Jesus.

No matter how many times I see this video, I can’t get over how his voice almost breaks, several times–because he’s so moved by the hymn as he sings it.

‘I Am a Pilgrim’

No hymn requests today as yet, no likes, no comments–almost feels like CNN. So I’ll have to come up with something…

Here’s one I hadn’t heard before–I Am a Pilgrim, sung by Doc Watson with Jeff Little on the piano. The lyrics bring Hebrews 11 to mind. And as many times as he’s performed these hymns, you can see they haven’t grown stale for him.

By Request, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’ (Doc Watson)

This is an old Sunday school favorite, and not even Doc Watson can sing it without tearing up. Requested by Erlene: What a Friend We Have in Jesus. I sometimes whistle it when I walk, and people have been known to thank me for it.

Yes, we need Jesus. Oh, how we need Him.

By Request, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

We thank Erlene for this hymn request–What a Friend We Have in Jesus, sung by Doc Watson. Even though it generally makes my eyes fill up. But how many times has Doc performed it–and even he can’t get through it without being deeply moved.

Oh, God, how we need Jesus!

By Request, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

One of my favorites, requested by Erlene–Doc Watson singing What a Friend We Have in Jesus–almost brought to tears, too. This is a hymn that makes people pause and listen, if you whistle it as you go by on the sidewalk.

Hard to sing this without feeling it! I’m not sure that can be done.

‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’

This hymn never fails to move me–What a Friend We Have in Jesus, performed by Doc Watson. You know he’s sung this hymn in public more times than he can count; but look what happens when he sings it.

Me, too, Doc. Me, too.

Let’s Soothe Our Souls

There’s a lot to be distressed about, these days, and don’t we all know it!

Let’s share a hymn. How many times must Doc Watson have performed this hymn for an audience, and still could hardly get through it without giving in to tears? What a Friend We Have in Jesus… “take it to the Lord in prayer.”

If I had a working guitar, and the talent to make music on it, I’d sing and play this hymn until I cried my eyes out.

And I would be the better for it.
