Susan asked for this, and it’s one of my favorities, too: Blessed Assurance, by Fanny Crosby–Christians have been loving it since 1873. This rendition is by the Harpeth Gospel Quartet, with God’s own handiwork for the background. As I write this, we’re having a foggy morning here–just like in the picture of fog blanketing a valley. As long as you’re not driving, you can enjoy the fog sometimes.
‘Blessed Assurance’
A hymn from 1873, written by Fanny Crosby–you can’t go wrong. Blessed Assurance, sung a capella by the Harpeth Gospel Quartet, with the work of God’s hands for background. I’ll never get over the way the human voice can be turned into a musical instrument.

I was so impressed by the way they sang Blessed Assurance, I looked for more hymns by the Harpeth Gospel Quartet and found this–I Love to Tell the Story, an old Sunday school favorite. Kate Hankey wrote it in 1866. Background sets by the hand of God the Father, maker of heaven and earth.

I need all the assurance that My Lord can give me, all the time. And sometimes we can find it in a hymn. This is the Harpeth Gospel Quartet, with no musical instruments but their voices, singing Fanny Crosby’s Blessed Assurance. And the beautiful scenery on the background testifies that God is nigh.

‘Standing on the Promises’
Truly, if God had given me everything I ever asked for, it would have destroyed me. But He will keep His promises. In fact, I’ve been told of someone who actually stood on her Bible when she prayed, saying, “Lord, I am standing on your promises!”
Standing on the Promises, here sung a cappella by the Harpeth Gospel Quartet, was published in 1886–and those promises are still good today. God’s promises have no expiration date.
