‘You’ve Got Till 6 P.M. to Clear Out…’

Don't Let The Door Hit You in the Ass on the Way Out! Metal Sign

I’d better get this written now, before the story disappears or turns itself inside out.

The offices of the U.S. Dept. of Education are “temporarily closed” today, according to their switchboard (1-800-872-5327).

Yesterday (Tuesday) President Donald Trump gave DOE personnel until 6 p.m. to vacate all Dept. of Education buildings, nationwide. They are expected to be re-opened tomorrow (https://www.yahoo.com/news/education-department-closes-office-buildings-204724307.html).

Major layoffs are also expected: some 1,300 “workers.” And $25,000 buyouts may be offered.

The Dept. of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been looking into expenditures by the Education department, turning up such gems as these:

*A billion dollars (!) to advance “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” in the public schools

*Flying the “Pride flag,” supporting militant political and cultural aggression by Organized Sodomy

*Testing students at 53 Illinois public schools, NONE of the students tested were proficient in mathematics at their grade level. Zip, zero, nada.

*A 700-page “amendment” (!) has been added to Title IX “to stop harassment based on subjective gender identification”

The president has no power to abolish the Dept. of Education. That would have to be done by Congress. But he can certainly make life uncomfortable for them.

We, some years ago, seem to have entered a phase of history in which agencies created by governments to serve the public only rob them, bully them, insult them, and cheat them. “Public education” offers abundant examples–if “abundant” is not too tame a word for it.

Trump: Close Dept. of Education ‘Immediately’

378 Skeleton At Desk Stock Photos, High-Res Pictures, and ...

We’ve been saying this since Jimmy Carter created the federal Dept. of Education, back in 1979. President Donald Trump is saying it now. He wants the department “closed immediately” because “It’s a big con job” (https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2025/02/12/trump-calls-department-education-closed-immediately/).

Trump cited the international rankings of 40 countries on the list. The United States ranks No. 1 in per pupil cost… and 40th in general quality. Dead last. We pay the most and get the least.

Thank you, teachers’ unions.

“What I want to do is let the states run the schools,” Trump said.

Here at Chalcedon we’ve advocated for homeschooling and religious private schooling for some 60 years. The figures have always supported our position. When R.J. Rushdoony first spoke out for homeschooling, it was almost unheard-of: everyone was sending their children to the public schools.

We are happy to be able to say that that has changed. Not near enough, yet–but enough so you’d notice.
