By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’

This blog is getting a little topheavy today, but I didn’t want to skip the hymn suggested by Erlene this morning: one of the most popular hymns ever–Rock of Ages, by Augustus Toplady (1775, and still going strong). Sung here by the Antrim Mennonite Choir.

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’

We have another hymn request by Erlene [Note: You can all make as many as you want!]–Rock of Ages, sung by Tennesse Ernie Ford. He also tells you how the hymn came to be written.

Our hymn contest ends August 8. So if you haven’t entered yet… well, what are you waiting for?

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’

We have a hymn request from Erlene, something to wash out the acrid aftertaste of nooze–Rock of Ages, sung with gusto by the students at Fountainview Academy.

You’d be hard-put to find a church where this is never sung.

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’ (New Melody)

Susan asked for this one: Rock of Ages, same lyrics, but with a new melody by James Ward, who also sings it.

We’ll take more hymn requests as they come in.

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’-Plus

This hymn request came in from Joshua late yesterday, so I saved it for this morning–Guy Penrod singing a medley of Rock of Ages and I Stand Amazed. I don’t like to use up all the hymn requests at once, in case I don’t get any the next day.

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’

There have been several requests for Rock of Ages lately. Not bad for a hymn published in 1775. Written by Augustus Toplady, sung here by the Antrim Mennonite Choir. Requested by Erlene.

‘Rock of Ages’

If we pay attention to the lyrics, we find sound theology: Rock of Ages, written by Augustus Toplady in 1775, and performed here by the Antrim Mennonite Choir.

By Request, ‘Rock of Ages’

Rock of Ages, by Rev. A.M. Toplady, was first published in 1775 and has remained popular ever since–but you’ve never heard it sung like this before. Requested by Joshua: Rock of Ages, sung a capella by GLAD.

‘Rock of Ages’

I always think of this as the 19th century hymn; but actually it was written in 1763 by Augustus Toplady: Rock of Ages, performed here by the Antrim Mennonite Choir.

If you’re new here, and you have a favorite hymn you’d like to share, just let us know and we’ll do the rest.

By Request, James Ward’s ‘Rock of Ages’

Susan asked for this one: James Ward’s version of Rock of Ages–same lyrics, different music.

For those of you who are new to this blog, we take hymn requests. If you’d like to make one, just “Leave a Reply” on any post and we’ll do the rest.
