September 11 – Conspiracy Theories

I was going to write about September 11 today, but The River Walk has done it better.   –LD

THE RIVER WALK

Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do, and don’t live in dread of what frightens them. Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life. He is the one you should fear. He is the one who should make you tremble. He will keep you safe. (Isaiah 8:12-14)

Read: Isaiah 8:1-9:21, 2 Corinthians 12:1-10, Psalm 55:1-23, Proverbs 23:4-5

Relate: One of my favorite movies during my college years was Enemy of the State. In this movie, a high profile murder was caught on tape. The person taping it is running for his life and plants the tape unawares on a lawyer named Will Smith, er… I mean Robert Dean. Suddenly, this average guy finds himself running for his life while deep operatives with all the power, technology, and budget of the USA on his tail. By an accident of chance, he has become an Enemy of the State…

July 11 – Mud On The Ground

From The River Walk–I remember this story from Sunday school.   –LD

THE RIVER WALK

David remarked longingly to his men, “Oh, how I would love some of that good water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem.” So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew some water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. These are examples of the exploits of the Three.
(1 Chronicles 11:17-19)

Read: 1 Chronicles 11:1-12:18, Acts 28:1-31, Psalm 9:1-12, Proverbs 19:1-3

Relate:
Jash, David’s thirsty. We need to go get him some water.”
He looked at me like I was crazy. “So go get him…

From our fellow Christian blogger, “The River Walk.” Wouldn’t you like to know what Jesus wrote in the dust with His finger?    –LD

THE RIVER WALK

They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus bent down and wrote in the dust with his finger.
(John 8:6)

Read: 1 Kings 22:10-53, 2 Chronicles 18:9 – 20:30

Relate: In Jeremiah 17, God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”

When the people brought to Jesus the adulteress, they didn’t really care about keeping the law. Adultery was actually a very impractical crime for them to try and punish. On the one hand, it was very widespread. On the other, any capital crime needed to receive Roman approval. For such a crime that approval would be very difficult to acquire. Besides, they didn’t like needing to get “permission” from Rome for anything. On…
