A very insight-filled piece and an interesting glimpse into the history of our nation. The sexual morality of a society is a great indicator of that society’s character. In my lifetime, the moral standards of this country have changed dramatically and, overall, our life here in the US changed apace.
Think of the huge homeless populations in places like Seattle and San Francisco. None of this existed on anything near that scale when I was a child. Then there’s the matter of single-parent families or children being raised by their grandparents, something that has burgeoned over the last few decades.
Morality matters.
The British gov’t also quartered their soldiers in colonists homes where they were free to abuse them and even get away with raping their daughters. No wonder they wanted to rid the land of redcoats.
