  4. Thank you, Lee and Erlene, for asking about me. I’m actually starting to feel human again, although this afternoon I was doubled up with a stomachache so I couldn’t post much. I have to remember that even though I’m starting to be able to eat almost normally again, I have to be careful about what and how much I eat. Other than that and a few residual — but much milder — symptoms, I’m coming back to normal. Of course, “normal” for an 80-year-old isn’t quite the same as “normal” for a 30-year-old, but it’s sure better than what I went through for the past week. 🙂 Thank you all for your prayers.

    And yes, the hymn was perfectly placed today. It reminded me to take that horrible stomachache to the Lord in prayer. And then the pain, although still there, was irradiated with His love. It was a great comfort. I love that hymn.

    Lee, do you suppose we can have “In the Garden” tomorrow?

  6. This wonderful hymn was written by Joseph Scriven about 1880. A man who had few close friends on earth. He had migrated to Canada after a tragedy struck (on the day before he was to wed, his sweetheart drowned in a river), and when he heard his mother was sick, and didn’t have the funds to finance a trip back home to Dublin, so he wrote this poem, praying it would lift her spirits and comfort her. Joseph was a man that had truly experienced the sorrows of grief and loneliness; and he had poured out his life in service to others without thought to repayment of any kind. In fact, it was said of Joseph that he would only work for those who could not pay!
