‘Bringing in the Sheaves’

I wish this hymn were longer! It’s one of my favorites from way back–Bringing in the Sheaves, sung here by Tennessee Ernie Ford. I wonder how many times we sang this in Sunday school before we knew what sheaves are.

  1. Refers to the Feast of First Fruits from the O. T. The reason the Lord rose from the tomb on that traditional day (Sunday, day after the Sabbath) when the Sheaves were presented to the priest in thanks for the harvest and looking forward to next season’s harvest. It is the reason Jesus brought forth a number of “righteous dead” who appeared in the city.

  2. Excellent idea. I’ll try to make it. I have been very sick for three days -haven’t been on line
much today- the worst so far. Leviticus 23:11 the reference

    1. I wanted to talk about Mt. 27: 52-53 today; but I’m so dispirited by those orcs out there sawing down all the trees, I just don’t feel like doing anything. Nowhere for me to sit and write anymore. (Yes, they’re still out there with their accursed machines.)
