‘Gesu Bambino’

You don’t think I’d let Christmas go by without posting Gesu Bambino by Pavarotti–did you? Perish the thought!

And here he’s got help from the Wandsworth School Boys’ Choir and the National Philharmonic Orchestra. You’ve gotta love it!

  1. What a voice! We don’t have voices like this any more — in any range, from soprano to basso. I wonder whether it has something to do with the kind of training singers get nowadays, and/or the effect of recording mics that singers have gotten used to carrying around in their clothing or in their hair all the time? Or what? I’ve listened to most of the “stars” in current years, and none have come up to the quality of the Golden Age of Sutherland, Pavoratti, Bjoerling, Ghiaurov, Merrill, and all the other greats of the 1950s through 1980s.
